Following the recent death of a NY teen who committed suicide after being tormented by classmates, Dana Boyd reflects on the language of teens, who will frequently dismiss bullying as "stupid drama" in order to minimize its impact and save face. It distances both the perpetrators and the victims from pain. She recommends a focus on more positive concepts like "healthy relationships" and "digital citizenship" rather than the negatives framing of bullying.

It's all about Think Aloud, that age-old trick of simply narrating everything you are doing as the wiser, more experienced brain in the room. Narrate your decisions and your rationale and you will be teaching your students how to make good decisions online and off. Good behavior online is trickle down, after all. Model it, live it, talk about it. It's all "using" technology.

Many of the participants in the UW-Stout E-Learning and Online Teaching Graduate Certificate Program use Google Sites to create their e-portfolios. The portfolios are created and used throughout the program. During the practicum, when students become teachers by teaching in one of our graduate classes, they also refine and polish their portfolios. Ultimately the online portfolio becomes a job search tool that helps our graduates show a potential employer what they know.
